Trelawny was named after the former Governor of Jamaica Sir William Trelawny. The parish was established in 1770. The yellow snakes and the giant swallowtail butterfly which is the largest butterfly in the western hemisphere can be found in Trelawny. In addition, most of Jamaica’s 27 endemic bird species. It's also a natural reserve for flora and fauna.
