Tucked away in the lush mountains of Gordon Town, St. Andrew, PrettyClose1876 is a true off-the-grid paradise. Known for its hand-built riverside escape and spiritual connection to nature, this eco-retreat is home to not four, but five stunning waterfalls, each offering a unique experience along the winding Flora River.
What started as a visit to see one waterfall has now become a multi-stop adventure—and I’ve returned again and again, uncovering a new gem each time.
1. Orchid Falls – The Introduction
My first Pretty Close adventure began when Simone sent me a video of this graceful waterfall. Nestled just minutes from the gazebos, Orchid Falls was the gateway to it all.
This calm, shallow cascade flows gently into a pool perfect for early-morning dips, especially for first-time visitors. It’s peaceful, photo-friendly, and serves as the perfect warm-up for the rest of the trail.
2. Governor Falls – Cool and Crisp
Ten minutes upstream, Governor Falls quickly became a favorite. Its powerful drop pours into a refreshing natural pool. The water is usually cold—great for a brisk wake-up splash.
The view here is framed by tropical ferns and rocks, offering a natural amphitheater feel. It’s perfect for floating, relaxing, or cooling off after the uphill walk.
3. Fern Fever Falls – Beauty and Solitude
Climb past Governor Falls and you’ll find Fern Fever Falls, named for the thick wall of ferns surrounding its rugged, quiet charm.
I celebrated my birthday here with Jess. We drank tea by the water, shared stories, and savored the serenity of a place that felt worlds away from Kingston, yet was just under an hour’s drive.
4. Lion Falls – Bold, Roaring, and Rewarding
Lion Falls is the crown jewel of Pretty Close—but you’ll have to earn it.
Reaching it involves a dangerous, rope-assisted climb—slippery, steep, and not for the faint-hearted. But oh, what a reward. The force of the water, the height, the echo—it’s a million-dollar moment. I called it “a love song” of a waterfall because no other place gave me that mix of fear, joy, and awe.
5. The Nameless Waterfall – A Hidden Gem
On my most recent trip, I finally uncovered a waterfall I had chased for years—a nameless, hidden waterfall beyond even Fern Fever and Lion Falls.
I saw a photo on Emilio’s Instagram, and I knew it had to be in the area. After dangerous climbs, slippery rocks, spider-webbed trails, and help from tour guide Jeffrey, I reached it.
No official name. No crowds. Just pure beauty.
It surpassed every expectation—possibly even rivaling Lion Falls. We made tea, hugged trees, and just sat still, completely stunned by the discovery. I might’ve been the first person to document it.
What Makes Pretty Close So Special?
Off-grid & Local: The space was handcrafted by Omar “Ramo” Edwards using only natural materials. Calabash bowls, hammocks, woodfire cooking—it’s a soulful retreat.
Eco-conscious & Private: Visits are reservation-only to preserve peace and nature.
Healing Space: The sound of the river, the green canopy above, and the five waterfalls combine to create a spiritual, rejuvenating escape from city life.
Tips Before You Go
Wear proper hiking shoes—especially for Lion and the nameless waterfall.
Pack light but bring snacks, swimwear, a towel, and a water bottle.
Book ahead—Pretty Close is not a walk-in location.
Ask for a guide if you plan to visit Lion Falls or explore beyond it.
Final Thoughts
Pretty Close 876 is no ordinary waterfall stop. It’s a journey—one that reveals more with each visit. From the peaceful Orchid Falls to the wild climb toward Lion, and now the discovery of a fifth waterfall, this place has carved itself into my soul.
I’ll be back again, no doubt—because nature still has secrets to share.
